Kiondo

Handwoven baskets from Kenya and made of sisal. Sisal is made of the agave leaves and very strong. These bags has leather handles so nice to carry.

These Kenyian weavers begin by stripping the Sisal plant’s outer layers, leaving the plant still able to grow. The weaver used threads from the pale colored layers, that have dried out for a day, to make a bag. Then boils the threads to be used with water and dye sets the bag’s colors. Then the weaving begins, mostly it takes 2 weeks to weave a bag.
